This guide is not designed to tell how to play your healer because no two people play exactly the same. This is also designed for those who wish to be healers not tanks or battle oracle/priest (There is nothing wrong with these other types of play but I don’t have experience with them.). This is more of a general guideline for anyone who is interested in being a reliable party member. As a healer in a party, if there are no other healers, you are the glue that keeps the party together. Without you, the party will die and noone will get exp/drops/kills. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve been in a party where when I leave, the party breaks up.
As a healer the most important skill is dispel. If you are UM you will even get a skill called Party-Dispel. The range is only 15 meters but the levels of Party-Dispel, remove the same debuffs of the equivalent level of Dispel. Party-Dispel works well if your party gets bunched up together and it will use much less MP than if you target individual party members with Dispel. If you get hit with a debuff that can be dispeled with Dispel Pots, use them instead and continue to dispel and heal your party. A pot will not interrupt you from keeping your party members dispeled. However, if you dispel yourself, it could cause someone else in the party to die by your lack of response time in healing them.
Another important set of skills are your buffs. At a higher level, Aura of Peace (AOP) will AOE your party members if they are within 100 meters. I keep my buffs set up in my revolving skill bar (The bar that requires you to press "R" and rotates to the next skill.). Prayer, AOP, and Body Protector, in that order, are the skills I place in there. The reason for this is that Prayer only lasts 15 minutes and will need to be refreshed first. AOP is equally important but the chance that the timer ends before rebuffing is low. And Body Protector is last because it only affects you as the healer and noone else in the party. A good healer will keep his buffs active on all party members at all times. A great healer will also remind their party members to activate their buffs as needed as well.
A great ally to a UM healer is the hunter. The hunter buff will add the much needed SP so that you can use Self-Heal multiple times. Self-Heal is a great UM skill but a healer should not rely on his skills alone to save themselves. HP pots and Great pots should also be stored. I always keep 3 entire pages of pots of various types. Being high level means I have access to the best pots in the game. I keep Great Super pots in my "Z" button slot and orange Dispel pots in my "X" button slot. I use my first skill bar for important skills and will go over them in more depth in a moment. My second skill bar is set up as follows:
0 Mount (Because I am stuck using sonic amulet and not sonic boots)
1 Great Healing Potion
2 Great Mana Potion
3 Arcane Potion
4 Untouchable Potion
5 Degeneration (used in PVP against the other faction, I primarily target the healer in their party so that the Damage Dealer in my party can kill the other factions players)
6 Detection (used in PVP to unstealth a ranger/assassin if needed)
7 Magic Mirror (used only if I see a mage/pagan, it is wonderful to make them "Kamain Breath" themselves)
8 Magic Protector (used in Caleum Sacra and in PVP)
9 Evolution level 1 (only level 1 because it is only used on party members who need to get through dangerous areas
That skill bar is set up for my own survival and some pvp. My first skill bar is set up with my healing skills and party skills. I have it set up as follows:
1 Dispel
2 Healing
3 Instant Heal
4 Recovery (I rarely even bother using this skill because I heal for so much with Healing)
5 Recover (used in areas where AOE debuffs and damages entire party)
6 Self Heal
7 Party Dispel
8 Party Heal
9 Resurrection
0 Etains Blessing
Like I said before, everyone plays their Oracle/Priest differently so not everyone is going to take the same set up as I did. A battle Priest/Oracle would not even need healing because they wouldn’t be able to heal for as much as a healer would. Instead, they would be better off using recovery. They would heal for overall almost the same with the only exception being that they would need to use mana pots more often. The same would be true for a tank Priest/Oracle. They wouldn’t need all the healing spells. Instead they could use their skill points on attack skills or anything else.
