First of all, a basic introduction.

The class Vim is basically the warrior/tank class of this game. Vim is very influential in guild wars, pvps, and pking because essentially he has a large pool of HP to fall back on (aside with his nice defense of course). A good Vim with +7/+8/+9 armor and boots can easily turn any battle into the opponents worst nightmare. Hes got the ability to de buff the opponent (making him/her more prone to stuns, weakening, paralyzing, etc etc) and cause amount of damage (your damage will directly depend on what + refine your weapon is, a Vim with a good refined wep can easily top any other high damaging class).

*Here are some recommendations: (yes, it states the obvious)

– If you are looking to increase your HP pool, refine your boots
– If you are looking to increase your defense, refine your armor
– If you are looking to increase your damage, refine your weapon.

Refining your Boots and Armor is highly recommended for a good tank. +7/+8/+9 boots (depending on what lvl boots they are) can easily get you an increased 1-3k hp boost.
