Best iOS Games of the Year 2015 (iPhone/iPad)
Welcome to the Best iOS Games of the Year for 2015. At the end of this video I’ll be giving away $50 in iTunes vouchers, so make sure you watch right till the end. So without further ado, let’s get into it! Starting off at number ten, it’s Sage Solitaire, a game that takes a unique twist on the original solitaire that we all know and love. The game is set out on a 3 by 3 grid, with loads of cards piled on top of each other.
It’s your aim to clear all of the cards by using the available cards to create poker like hands such as a pair or a full house. Which sounds relatively simple, but is actually rather challenging. Sage Solitaire has made it into the 2015 top ten list, due to it being so unique and advancing a game that we all love into something that’s even more entertaining than the original and is also highly addictive! Back in 2014, Crossy Road developers Hipster Whale secured a position on the Best iOS Games of the Year list, and here they are again, but this time, it’s with PAC-MAN 256.
Just like the original PAC-MAN game we’ve all played, there’s ghosts, cherries, and power pellets, but PAC-MAN 256 has a little bit of a twist, as it now features crazy power-ups, an endless maze, and also a glitch that’s deleting the maze as you go. The new twists help to give PAC-MAN a new lease of life and creates a game that’s extremely fast paced and unbelievably addictive. So with the new twists, a character we all love and solid gameplay, it’s no surprise that Apple has also named PAC-MAN 256 as one of the best games of 2015. In eighth place, it’s the Out Run inspired Horizon Chase. An extraordinary racing game that features a unique combination of retro racing with an updated and modern feel, and in an App Store where there’s an abundance of realistic and futuristic racing games, Horizon Chase really does set itself apart from the rest.
Now with that being said, the success of Horizon Chase isn’t just down to its visuals, it’s also down to the simple, yet beautifully crafted retro controls, wonderfully composed soundtrack, and of course, the great amount of content it has to offer, all of which, come together to bring you some of the best and thoroughly enjoyable racing fun you’ve had in a long time. If you remember back to last year’s episode, we featured Square Enix’s Hitman GO, a widely successful game that was loved by all. Fast forward a year, and Square Enix have taken the Hitman GO concept and applied it to the Lara Croft IP, a decision that has created a fresh and captivating puzzle game that is a must-have for anyone’s iOS game collection. Throughout the game you’ll be scaling walls, fighting menacing enemies, overcoming dangerous obstacles and let’s not forget, escaping deadly traps. When you add all of that together, it really shows how unique and challenging Lara Croft GO truly is, and with that in mind, Lara Croft GO is certainly a worthy winner of being on 2015’s list of the Best iOS Games of the Year! At number six on this list, we’ve got a game that’s loved by many for it’s fun combat and intense gameplay, that game is Attack the Light.
An epic RPG where you’ll find yourself setting out on a magical adventure that involves cave exploration, epic fights, collecting super secret treasure and of course, levelling up. Featuring a surprisingly deep and interesting story, Attack the Light is perfect at keeping you entertained, and is quite simply, a game you won’t want to put down anytime soon. The true beauty of Attack the Light is the fact that it’s fun, engaging, and appeals to all ages.
So it’s easy to see how Attack the Light made it’s way on this year’s list! At number five it’s the combat-action platformer, The Executive! A fast-paced game that’s all about using your characters insane martial arts skills to fight the deadly werewolves, in an attempt to save your employees. You’re also the CEO of a trillion dollar company, so as well as fending off hordes of werewolves, you’ll also have to earn money. The fighting and the smooth touch controls have been developed extremely well, and work perfectly with one another, offering the player a flawless combat experience. In fact, virtually every inch of the game has been developed with such care and high attention to detail, for example, the animation system is completely original and built from the ground-up, which is one of the many reasons The Executive has received so many great reviews and is on this year’s list! In fourth place, it’s the best puzzle game of 2015, The Room Three! Chances are, you’ve played at least one The Room game, but for those of you that haven’t, the aim is for you to explore spine-tingling environments and manipulate intricate objects to uncover their hidden secrets and dive deeper into the mysterious story.
The puzzles you’ll encounter along the way can be extremely challenging and require a lot of out-of-the-box thinking in order to find the solution, and trust me, you won’t want to put the game down until you do. Every aspect of The Room Three has been done to perfection, amazingly beautiful visuals, intriguing puzzles, haunting atmosphere and very smooth and easy to use controls, so with that being said, The Room Three is currently crowned with the title of the best puzzle game for iOS in 2015. In third place and taking home the bronze medal, it’s Implosion! Implosion is set twenty years after the fall of earth, and that in itself must be an event that’s incredibly terrifying, but to make matters worse, a mysterious life force has made its way to earth to destroy the rest of mankind.
So your aim is to suit up and take advantage of a vast arsenal of high-tech weapons to help eradicate the threat and ensure the survival of human life. Now we’ve had plenty of games with beautiful graphics already, and as you’ve probably guessed, there’s still two more to come, but Implosion is something different, something special that pushes the boundaries of mobile gaming, and leaves you wondering how you’re able to play a game so graphically intense and advanced in the palm of your hands.
In second place, we’ve got the most visually stunning snowboarding game on the App Store, and that of course is Alto’s Adventure. In Alto’s Adventure, you’ll be joining Alto and his friends to embark on an epic endless snowboarding odyssey, a journey that will take you across ancient woodlands, beautiful alpine hills, neighbouring villages and long-abandoned ruins. With the beautifully crafted one-touch controls, you’ll quickly find yourself grinding rooftops and leaping over terrifying chasms, whilst becoming fully engaged in the game and enjoying every second of it. The attention to detail is really high, with the beautiful minimalist design, fully dynamic lighting and weather effects, Alto’s Adventure has it all, all of which, has been polished to absolute perfection.
And for the Best iOS Game of the Year for 2015, we’ve got the one, the only, Geometry Wars 3! A super crazy fast paced game with non-stop action and incredibly fun addictive gameplay. Set across wild 3D grids, the aim of the game is for you to battle your way through waves of unforgiving enemies in a bid to come out on top, but with the ever increasing grid difficulty, and the insane number of enemies you’ll face, Geometry Wars 3 will give you a challenge like no other.
Visually speaking, Geometry Wars 3 is downright gorgeous, with the highly detailed graphics and the bright colourful exploding particles, there’s nothing quite like it. And couple that with the adrenaline pumping gameplay, intuitive touch controls and the insane amount of joy the game will bring you, there’s no denying that Geometry Wars 3 is a mobile gaming masterpiece.
