Xbox One controller LED swap
Hey guys, so today I decided to make a quick video about how to change your LED on your Xbox One controller. Because I don’t want the video to be very long, I’m not going to show you how to take appart your Xbox One controller. I’m just going to start here, with the PCB and the LED on it. Before I start, I like to make sure the original LED is working.
There is a little white dot on the PCD, at the right side of the LED, to show where its negative side is. It is helpful to know it when it’s time to solder the new LED in place. To remove the LED, I prefer using a bigger soldering iron than the one I’m using to solder the new LED. The goal is to soak the LED with the tip of the soldering iron, until the LED come off. The bigger the tip of the soldering iron is, the better it is. So now that the LED is remove, I will put a blue LED in place. It is a SMD 0805, but a SMD 0603 would work too. It is a good idea to use flux, as it makes soldering a lot easier.
I try to solder one side just a little bit, then I go on the other side and solder it while applying a little pressure with my tweezer. It’s not a crucial step, but I try to put my LED on the PCB as flat as possible. Then I just go on the first side, to make sure it is well solder. Now that the hard part is done, I just try to power the LED to see if it is working. If it works now, it will works when the controller is put back together.
Then I use 99 percent alcohol to clean up a little bit of the mess that the flux as made. So this is it. After putting back together the controller together, this is the result. I hope you like it, and don’t forget to subscribe.
