Oculus Rift with Xbox controller – the one you could buy
Gaming company Oculus has unveiled the long awaited consumer version of its virtual reality headset. “So here it is. This is it. This is the Oculus Rift. It’s light you can hold it with one hand.” A prototype headset has been available to developers since 2013 but this will be the first its been available to the public. Oculus, which was acquired by Facebook for $2 billion last year, have partnered with Microsoft to allow gamers to directly stream Xbox One games into the Rift. Oculus has its own position sensitive hand controllers… “This is Oculus Touch. These are going to take virtual reality gaming to the next level. Oculus Touch will be available separately but the Rift will ship with an Xbox controller, enabling consumers to do things like pulling a trigger in a first-person shooter. There were no details about pricing at Thursday’s launch event in San Francisco but at a conference last month, Oculus boss Brendan Iribe said he expects the Rift and the computer needed to run it will cost around $1,500..
