Any of you guys that went full light/water around? I'm just not seeing how its possible to play w/o making a divinity hybrid. At the very least you need to get to natural healing to be decent in instances.
I tried making a full mind priest but it was a nightmare trying to keep parties healed up w/ heal having a 3 sec cd. Quite frankly it was embarrassing trying to run instances and I felt that character was the typical "bad priest" archetype regardless of how good I am. Heal spamming just can't keep up as primary healer and for 80% of the instances the sole healer...
This is my build atm. Pvp isn't a huge deal to me. When I get to the point where I actually want to join a guild I'm sure I'll be more than able to fullfill my role as a healer in pvp situations. As well I know most 1v1 situations I'm facing are not winnable on the world map regardless. Mostly its sin/war ganking me "like I'm impressed they can kill a class that has no chance against them... yawn" I just respawn and go back to what I was doing. Don't waste my breath complaining or shouting on the WC giving them exactly what they want.
Regardless, put a point in water freezing light just simply b/c I like 2 sec snare and it helps out a bit in PVE.
DPS - Keep weapon upgraded as much as I can afford and pets lol. I do just fine in the dps department and have never had any issues with not being able to do enough damage. As well I'm lvl 36 sitting on 8k+ mana and doing fine in that department. I rarely ever get to the red zone on my mana bar.
Healing- no issue I can spam heals endlessly.
Anyways, been playing around with talent builds up to 80 and I'm really liking the way the divinity (up to divine shield)/light tree hybrid builds look.
( a tip for new priests - get a dps pet... Learn to use your "pet attack" "pet recall" to pull mobs and let the pet tank and you act as a secondary attacker. My HP bar rarely goes down)
making a divine/water priest is a bit easier at 50 not enough points to get anything useful from both tree's atm
But saying that I think with such limited points it's a waste getting mp talents and only need one point in brilliance to get gods bestowal the talent calc is wrong so yeah just have 1 point in it
Also most priests get wheel of luck and instant healing
Sins are beatable just kite alot and don't let them build up orbs for finisher, wars are really overpowered at this lvl so you don't have much of a chance unless you are amazing or they are terrible so loh and get to sz...or if your white named you can just let them kil you don't lose anything anyway....
Yea I just needed to spend 2 talent points to get to "natural healing" and I can't find a big difference between WoL and SoM. WoL probably is a bit better though so I'll change that up next time i get a compass. As far as "brilliance" and "gods bestowal" I like brilliance, the 1m shaved off of CD seems nice to me and I needed to spend those 3 points regardless ( will look into this more though since AOE heal isn't as necessary when bards start stepping up with theirs). Same thing with Gods Bestowal, needed to spend a point to get to "throttle". I really can't wait until the level cap starts going up b/c priest just feels so limited and narrow right now.
Well see it like this LoS has a 5 minute cooldown its just an emergancy group heal changing it to 4 minutes doesn't really make a difference since you'll hardly use it...gods bestowal makes the next hit heal them so it makes the emergncy heal alot better so that is worth it
As for throttle that's isnt really worth it atm anyway specially when you are short of points doing divine/water. You can just get alchemy and spam pots or use mp regen drink
pure healers tend to get WoL and vigerous blessing from light tree not saying to get vigerous blessing but just the extra % heals does help
But well its up to you anyway the tree's are there to give us variety so is just my advice
honestly, if you're not going divine, you at least want to hybrid into Divine enough just to get Natural Healing maxed. The reduced cd and mp cost is way to helpful to ignore.
I still don't really get why any priest would go rebel or glacial though, right away at least. (and especially if you're not a PvPer)
I don't disagree with anything you've said. I started this thread for a discussion to get other peoples opinions. Yea I do agree with your opinion on LoS when I think more about it now. Early on before I knew how skills would develop it was easy to make errors in the talent builds. It seems like a lot of skills don't perform the way they read out in the in-game talent tree. For instance my "freezing light" at 2 (on my water priest) says there is a 10% chance to snare the target. I stopped pumping TP's in it at 2 because it seriously snares 99% of the time of equal level mobs.
As far as pure builds I don't think rebel or glacial are really that affective since your basically reducing your ability to support parties significantly. Even DPS wise I don't think they will be throwing out large numbers because there just isn't much you can do with 20 TP's. I guess the only way these builds are feasible would be to hit level cap with divine, then use a compass.
They should implement some type of heal CD in all the talent tree's at least. Rebel and Glacial honestly look more like weak mage talent tree's. I see nothing in either of those talent trees that scream "I'm a priest!"

A few more questions. How do you effectively kite in this game? You can't heal in motion, you cant use any attacking skills while in motion, and you can't even auto-attack in motion. I used to be pretty big on pvping especially in Warhammer and I still have all the badass computer gear for it but this is the first pvp based game I've encountered where you don't even have 1 skill you can use in motion. Stopping every 2 seconds to cast feels extremely ineffectual and quite honestly "primitive" compared to most standard pvp based MMO's out to date. It's actually dissuaded any interest I have in pvping in this game (which is a huge bummer bc it's naturally my fav thing to do in any game).
Can you cast instant healing on the move? Or do you have to stop and cast? If thats the case I won't waste one point in it.
I've recommended to people that if they really want to do water tree, they either do the hybrid in this manner OR play full Divinity until endgame and then switch. You can get 60 achievements easily by cap (which should be 70 in our version) and then respec to water should you choose.
But my complete endgame build has exactly that hybrid--points in divinity until natural healing, then all water.
As for your current build; I wouldn't bother with the two points into freezing light--you get two or three snares with prayer of frost and lower should you decide to stick with the water tree. Take the water mastery instead. Masteries are what make you HURT in this game.
Every priest in my guild was like, "Why do assassins bother, they're so easy to kite!" And I asked the same question. I think it's easier for elven priests to do because of their racial root. Just sit there and nuke them, and before it wears off just speed buff away and continue to nuke when you're at a range.
Melee have an easier time kiting, or atleast assassins do from my experience. One of the game mechanics that really bother me is that if you hit something, even if it's 50 meters out of your range, if it was in range when you casted it, it still hits.
I use LoH for situations where I know the heal might not charge in time because the casting time is close to non-existent. That, and if you play a priest you should be aware by now of the "targeting delay" -_-;
I loooovveee kiting on my priest in Aion. It made grinding elites fun. :| but I get really sad when my guild picks games without a function like kiting or animation canceling
