Hey I believe its time to let all my archer brothers and sisters know the correct use of Nature’s Protection.
1. What is Nature’s Protection?:
Natures Protection is a proximity skill that lowers your threat level to that of nearby characters.
2. What do I mean by proximity?:
The intended target(s) and caster must be within the dome at the time of the cast for the skill to have any effect. (i.e. you and the mobs must be inside the blue glowy thingy for the skill to work)
3. How long does the effects of the skill last?:
The effects will last for as long as tank or nearby characters can keep aggrro. (i.e. your treat level does not become higher than that of tank or nearby characters)
These are the 3 basic things you need to know about NP. Now I am going to give you some scenario where NP will or will not work because I am a nice guy
. All scenarios are with a party of 2 (Archer & Fighter of same level) for simplicity.
S.1
Tank taunts a mob, you attack from a distance and the mob comes after you.
If you cast NP when the mob comes into range the mob WILL go back to the tank.
This is the most familiar use of natures protection. However you risk taking a hit before the mob goes back to tank and it only takes one hit from some mobs to take you out.
S.2
Tank taunts a mob, you attack from a distance but you cast NP before you aggro the mob.
NP WILL NOT work in this case because you are out of range of the mob and chances are it will still attack you.
Some archers use NP in this way and go like, "What the @%#$! why did the mob still come after me." This is because if the mob is out of range NP is nothing but a pretty lights show.
S.3
Tank taunts a mob, you attack from close range and cast NP before the mob attacks you.
This WILL work in many situations but there is still a 50/50 chance that you may still aggro the mob.
Remember NP lowers your treat level not erases it if not we can walk up to a mob cast NP and it would leave us alone. (Farming mushrooms would be so much easier
). Therefore you should take into account that your dps is greater than that of a tank or a cleric (*whispers* and mages
) so if a battle is prolong eventually your treat level will rise above that of the tank and the mob will attack you.
S.4
Tank taunts a mob, but you use NP from close range before you attack the mob.
If you use NP this way you WILL ALMOST NEVER be attacked by the mob. This method substantially reduces your treat level.
This is by far the most affective way of using NP but the situation may not always allow you to use this method. This method can be used on one mob or a group of mobs and is therefore perfect for aoe grinding. However this method is only good for as long as the tank can hold the aggro. (i.e if the the tank dies the mob will come after you).
Now here is a complicated piece of information and feel free not to read this part of the tutorial
. (*takes a deep breath*). However there is also the possibility that if there are more than 2 members in a party and for some reason the tank looses aggro and the mob goes after say a cleric (it is still unlikely it will come after you) if the tank kick taunts the the mob for some reason the aggro for that mob becomes reset. As a result if you happen to be attacking that mob it is possible that the mob may come after you. Therefore if you see something like this happening it is best you use NP on that mob or recommend that the tank aoe taunts rather than kick taunt.
Well there you have it Ego’s tutorial on Nature’ Protection. So go try out some of what i said do not take my word for it. I promise you will find what i have said is true. So next time you see me walking around give me a shout and say thank you Ego. Later and Good Luck
