Flash’s Mage guide!

I am currently no longer playing this game, so i will not be posting and answering questions, updating this guide ect.
if someone wants to copy this guide and add/edit wrong/outdated info, go for it

(for the record, left pic is with max hp/end equips so i had +0 wep no pt buffs, no charms ect. and the right one was for max damage when i was lower lv. and i put whole char screen because i dont believe in hiding my build like most people lol)

(final update 7/12/09)

So you have decided on mage then huh?
Mages deal Magic Damage, and kill enemies fast, they are the masters of AoEing, and are also the weakest based on HP and Defense. T.T
Well here is some info and tips on how to play mage ^^

*Note* Unlike most other RPGs, mages magical attacks are all just a "magic" element. there are no elemental weakness or resistances in this game.

Spent alot of time making it, so i hope u guys like it and find it somewhat useful ^^
I shall update when ever i find new info
open to suggestions/comments, tho i might not check forums everyday

Mage Stats, Builds, and you

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Stats and you~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A simply way to explain is that:
-Stats in FS(FreeStat)
aka the stats on character info window
STR- +1.2 Damage(This is melee damage, and is useless for mages! unless you are aiming for the strongest melee mage on server or something lol)
DEX- +0.2% Evasion(after 50points it changes to +0.1%) ; +0.3% Aim(after 33 it changes to +0.2%, and after 67 it changes to +0.1%)
END- +5HP ; +0.5 Def ; 0.1% block rate(after 50 it changes to 0.05%….does nothing for mages because you have no shield…)
INT- +1.2 M.Dmg(this damage is not affected by opponents MDef)
SPR- +5SP ; +0.5 MDef ; +0.2% crit(only until 25spr then it changes to 0.1%, and at 62+ it gives 0.05% crit)
Also every time you lv up, it automatically adds HP,INT,SPR, and each lv it also adds varying stats between dex,str, or end.
-Stats on equips
STR- +1 Damage(again melee damage, useless for mage)
DEX- +1 Evasion ; +1 Aim
END- +5HP ; +1 Def
INT- +1 MDmg
SPR- +5SP ; +1 MDef
So for mages its good to have INT in FS because it gives +1.2 MDmg compared to gear which is only +1MDmg. and the FS points of int goes through the opponents Mdef.
And End is better on gear due to it giving 1Def instead of 0.5Def
And SPR in FS gives crit and on gear it doesnt.
stats from equips for mage priority
PvE
end>dex>int>spr
PvP
end/dex>int>spr
vs other mages
end/spr>dex>int
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Builds~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Well you are free to choose any build you want to, but the most common or worthwhile ones are:

-Pure Int
This is a good build, its for high damage. The crit can be made up from buying SC items every month. This build is really good for pvp if you buy alot of SC and get crit suits all the time.

-Pure SPR
This build would add alot more SP/Mdef to you w/ alittle more crit..
SPR gives 0.2%crit every point you put in it, so 5points=1%crit, great right?
Yes but after you put 25points in SPR(5%crit) you only get 0.1%crit/point.
so that means instead of 1%crit/5points, its 1%crit/10points, and the 1% crit/20points. so say your lv89 w/ pure spr,
you would have just under 11%crit, a 25spr mage would have 5%crit, so you give up 79int(94.8 M.Dmg) for only 5.75%crit, which is not worth it.

-**INT/SPR Hybrid**
This is BY FAR the most common/worthwhile build for mage. What you want to do is put 25SPR(for the 5%crit) and put the rest of points into INT(for damage). Its the best for PvP and a good build for partying. This build is very good especially for those who dont use as much SC.
I highly recommend this build!

-PvE Hybrid
This is a build im experimenting with because im a PvM(person v monster) mage
25SPR/25END/rest INT, its like int/25spr, but you sacrifice small amount of damage for hp boost.

-Pure End or End/25SPR
This build is good mainly for the HP boost. This build is good for, not dying as much, better for PvE. Tho this build becomes godly when you are a heavy SC spender.(always have 50%ext, charms, max crit suits)

-50DEX/Int This is most likely going to be the ultimate mage pvp build. Alot more so when used w/ 50% extenders and high crit sc suits.

STR is useless for all most everything expect maybe fooling around and pwning low lvs w/ melee lol

Mage Skills/Empowerments

-Optional Empowerments are varied on what lv your planing on leveling mage to, what type of mage you are(PvP(Player v Player) or Pvm/Pve(Player v Monster/Enviornment)), and if your willing to spend SC to get skill reset scrolls.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~How to Empower~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
you start by bringing up skill window(left) by pressing "K".
It shows what skills you have learned, which lvs of them, and @ bottom it says how many skill empowerment point you have currently. Skill reset points are if you purchased skill reset scroll from CS, which lets you take off points.
The < and > arrows let you switch between different lvs of the skill.
From here you can add skills to action bar, just click pic of skill(it takes what ever lv you have selected) and put it on open spot on action bar.
So to empower you click the "P" symbol near the skill you want empowered. You will get skill empowerment window(right). Then there are 4 options you can choose from to empower.
*Increase Basic power(increases damage of skills)
*Decrease SP consumption(takes less sp to use skills)
*Increase buff time(makes skills w/ status effects last longer, like ice’s slow)
*Decrease cool down time(makes skills ready to use sooner after using them)
*Note*Do not put sp down on anything! it sucks because you will like never run out of sp if you keep full sp stones. Only skill you should adjust buff time for is drain mind(fear) or maybe stifle.
*Note* Its best to either add 1 point or 5points when empowering skills, they are where you get the biggest upgrades.
The up and down arrows near each of those empowerment options let you add/subtract points from the skill. When you add a point you will see a colored dot in 1 of the four corners, this represents which and how many of each empowerment the skill has(5 is max). After you are done adding what you want, click complete, it will permanently put on those empowerments.
*Note*Once you click complete, you are stuck with that you put, you cannot take off points unless you buy skill reset scroll from CS. So if you are adding points you dont want you can click the down arrow to take them off before clicking complete, or you can click cancel.
If you do buy skill reset, to take off click down arrow, then click complete.
*Note* i added how much each empowerment affects each skill. This is based on max(5 points). I also did +damage based off all levels of the skill. 4X% would mean each of the skill lvs, would give between 40-49% increase in damage.
Lower level empowerments:
(to help in lower lvs, are not necessary. Only empower them if you are having trouble in low lvs and/or you can buy skill reset scrolls later. its is best to save points for higher lv skills like lv60/100)
*max cd on magic missile
*max cd on firebolt
*max cd on magic burst
PvE mage quick empowerments guide:
*max power & CD on magic blast
*max CD on Nova
*max CD on inferno
*max CD on ice field
but any extra points do what you want with.
*i also would maybe suggest max CD on chain casting because it takes off 1min 12sec.
PvP Mage quick empowerment guide:
*Max power & CD on magic blast
*Max power & CD on fireball
*Max buff time & CD on Drain mind(fear)
*Max CD on stifle
*Max CD on ice field
*Max CD on sleep(warlock)
*Max CD on Chain Casting(only really useful in wars, optional)
then do what you want with any extra points.
Balanced Mage quick empowerment guide:
for if you want some balance between both pve and pvp, but wont excel at either.
*Max damage and cd on magic blast
*Max cd on nova
*Max cd on inferno
*Max buff time on drain mind(fear)
*Max cd on chain casting
*Max CD on ice field
then do what you want with any extra points.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Skills~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Skills can be bought in: Roumen(lv3-19) Elderine(lv20-59) Uruga(lv60-99) Alberstoll Ruins(lv100+ and Expel) Bera(lv??)

Magic Missile: Lv. 1 ,7, 13, 19, 25, 31, 37, 43
1st spell you get, short cooldown spamming spell.
Keep Magic missile[1], it has 1.8sec CD which is really good for spamming and does more DPS then its higher lvs. even @ lv89 it still useful for things like speed pulling.
*Empowerents* damage: (+33%) CoolDown: Lv1(-0.5sec) Lv7+(-1.2sec)
-I would suggest not empowering this, max cd only takes off 0.54 sec, and is really only good until lv49. lv81+ u will almost never use it. You can empower it it you want to for extra boost at lower levels.

Ice Bolt: Lv. 3,9, 15, 21, 27, 33, 39, 45
Ice spell that has chance to slow targets travel speed (lasts 10sec)
Upgrade if you have the money for it, it adds damage, and make target run alittle slower.
*Empowerments* damage: (+33%) Buff time: (+3.0sec) CoolDown: (-4.5sec)
-I suggest not empowering this.

Fire Blot: Lv. 5,11, 17, 23, 29, 35, 41, 47
You 1st heavy damage spell.
Keep Fire Bolt[1] because of 5sec CD(others have 15sec), after lv49 upgrade this to Fire Bolt[8]
*Epowerments* damage: (+3X%) CoolDown: lv5(-1.5sec) lv11+(-4.5sec)
-(Again i would not suggest empowering this unless you are having trouble in low lvs, or dont mind spending reset scrolls) Max CD, this will help with fighting until you are lv5x. The spell is still useful at higher lvs.

Lightning Bolt: Lv. 7,13, 19, 25, 31, 37, 43, 49
Upgrade if you have the money
*Note also you can cast this spell while running*
*Empowerments* damage: (+3X%) CoolDown: (-4.5sec)
-I suggest no empowerments.

People have asked why use lv[1] of the magic missile and firebolt?

Well the actual damage is based off your Mdmg and the target’s Mdef.
mm[1] 6-8 dmg 1.8sec CD
mm[2] 29-36 dmg 4.0sec CD
well mm[2] does 23-28 more damage right? sorry to say but it doesnt…
say you hit monsters that are same lv as you for 100 w/ mm1;
mm2 will hit for probably 105-115, but mm2 has 2xs the CD,
so 2 mm[1]s would be 200dmg compared to 115.
because the additional spell damage on spells is deducted by target’s Mdef.

firebolt[1] has 5.0sec CD
firebolt[2] has 15.0sec CD
and its same thing upgrading adds few damage, when you can use lv[1] 3times.

if you want you can try it out for yourself, hit yellow named monsters w/ mm[1] twice, then do higher lv once, same w/ firebolt, use lv[1] 3times compared to higher lv once. you can see the damage difference for yourself.

also you have a higher chance to crit the spell, mm[1] you can cast 2xs, and highers only once, so you get twice the chance to get crits, and firebolt[1] you can use 3times, so a chance for 3crits instead of 1.

(from here on out always upgrade spells to highest version, unless told otherwise)

Magic Burst: Lv. 20,31, 42, 53, 64, 75, 86, 97, 100, 103
Your first AoE(Area of Effect) meaning it will hit multiple targets that are in range of spell. The area it hits is 1.5M from where you are standing. can only hit a certain # of enemies
This spell can be bought from nina for 400fame or quested from mage skill person in eldy after doing job change.
*Empowerments* damage: (+5X%) CoolDown: (-0.6sec)
-(you can put max cd to helpin aoeing in lower lvs but its only 0.6 sec off. after lv67 you dont use it as much.)

Life Tap: Lv. 20,29, 38, 47, 56, 65, 74, 83, 92, 101, 105
This spell converts HP>SP, it takes alot of HP to recover alittle SP, only use it when you are out of SP stones, never use in battle unless you have decent cleric. Good for trying to suicide faster lol.
(exception, upgrade if you have money, or find you run out of SP alot)
*Note* can be casted while running
*Empowerments* CoolDown: (-4.5sec)
-i would suggest not empowering.

Dispel: Lv. 25,48, 72, 96
Takes off the last debuff spell casted on you or a friendly target
Debuffs include: Slow(from like ice vivis, works on icebolt and nova slow, not ice blast though), any decreased stats debuff, immobilized(when u get rooted to ground), STIFLE(may take a sec to take off after casting) and electric shock, archers blind, and takes off debuffs from fighter skills(except defense down). doesnt work on any kind of stun effects, or defense down.
*Note* This spell is currently glitched and Dispel[1] will take off ANY tier of Debuff, so dont need to upgrade until they fix that; also can be casted while running; it takes off the 1st debuff casted on you.
*Empowerments* Buff time: (+0.0sec) CoolDown: (-9.0sec)
-i would suggest not empowering. (yes, you are able to empower buff time for some reason O.o)

Mana Burn: Lv. 31,41, 53, 64, 75, 86, 97, 102
This spell does some Magic damage, and it burns the targets SP, its an ok spell for PvP
and can be used against the "???" in the abyss.
*Note* this skills doesnt stop monsters from using skills! only works on players or the ??? in abysses; can be casted while running
*Empowerments* damage: (3X~4X%) Buff time: (+0.0sec) CoolDown: (-54.0sec)
-i would suggest not empowering. (again you are able to empower buff time)

Purge: Lv. 37
Ahh yes, the mages way to get even w/ ppl, this spell will take off a the first buff casted on a target, only really useful in PvP
*Note* will take off stuff like scrolls/buffs(gk str buff, archer attack speed+,any cleric buffs,cleric’s invincible, and chain casting types of buffs, also the ice effect from pvp kq!) Will NOT work on, Vitality,power of love,guild buff,violence,buckler,neglect or monsters’ regen(like MD); can be casted while running
*Empowerments* CoolDown: (-36.0sec)
-you can empower this if you want, can be useful in pvp.

Magic Blast: Lv. 49,57, 65, 73, 81, 89, 95, 100, 105
This is a mages bread ‘n butter, its a beefed up version of magic missle, this is also where most spells start having cast times.
*NOTE* Magic Blast [03] skill and above can now be used while moving kite-able skill!
*Empowerments* damage: (+4X%) CoolDown: lv49-73(-1.2sec) lv81(-2.8sec)
-Max Damage and CD (its a great spell, but having max CD by lv81 is a must!)

Ice Blast: Lv. 51,59, 67, 75, 83, 91, 97, 103
Better version of Ice bolt, it makes target run slower then ice bolt[8] (lasts 10 sec)
it cant be dispeled, so it makes it more useful for pvp too.
*Note* This spell shares CD w/ ice bolt, mean is you use this both ice blast n bolt go in CD or vise versa, so just replace ice bolt w/ this spell.
*Note* Upgrading ice blast makes target run slower.
*Empowerments* damage: (+4X%) Buff time: (+3.0sec) CoolDown: (-4.5sec)
-I suggest not empowering.

FireBall: Lv. 53,61, 69, 77, 85, 93, 97, 103
Better version of fire bolt, and atm it is most damaging single target spell for mage
*If not done so already GET fire bolt[8] and use that instead of [01]!*
*Empowerments* damage: (+4X~5X%) CoolDown: Lv53-77(-4.5sec) Lv85+(-10.5sec)
-(pvp mages) Max damage or CD or Both

Lightning Blast: Lv. 57,65, 73, 81, 89, 97, 103
Better version of lightning bolt, can also be casted while running just like lightning bolt
*Note* The added effect that sometimes happens does nothing
*Empowerments* damage: (+4X%) CoolDown: (-4.5sec)
-i suggest not empowering.

Frost Nova: Lv. 60,65, 70, 75, 80, 90, 93, 96, 99, 102, 105
Yay the awesome looking spell! lol, well this is your first really good AoE attack, it hits ALL enemies in the range of circle, and will slow them, it lasts for 12secs and does damage every 3sec(hits 4times). this can never miss, and it does get crits.
*Note* adding buff time will NOT make nova damage last longer(tested)
*Epowerments* damage: (+49%~7X%) Buff time: (+3.0sec) CoolDown: (-4.5sec)
-Max CD(for PvE mages), max damage only adds small damage increase on grey-yellow monsters.

Drain Mind: Lv. 60,75, 90, 105
aka Fear, its similar to a fighters stun, but it will cause the target to run randomly around for the duration. its a mages trump card for PvP. (lasts 3sec and each new fear adds 1 sec) Fear is able to stack(you can rewrite a fear with another fear); can be casted while running; works 100% of time on general/elite monsters and other players; chief monsters it works like 10% of the time, and on boss monsters it doesnt work
*Empowerments* Buff time: (+3.0sec) CoolDown: (-27.0sec)
-Max Buff time(recommended unless you never pvp or solo much), and max CD (for PvP mages)

Chain Casting: Lv. 60
Lets you cast a the same spell twice w/ no cool time.
*Note* If you chain cast something, you only click like fear/stifle once, spamming the button will make u cast 2 in like 0.1 seconds which will be a waste. Make sure you firmly and calmly click spell only once after using CC.
*Note* lv95 shackle set takes 1min off the cc cd, max cd + shackle set = 1min 48sec cc cd!
*Empowerments* Buff time: (+?sec) CoolDown: (-1min 12sec)
-(optional) Max CD (it allows you to put buff time, but i wouldnt do it lol)

Inferno: Lv. 67,77, 87, 93, 98, 102
This just like nova but does alot more damage and bigger circle range. This can never miss, and it does get crits.
*Note* That you cannot empower damage on this spell
*Empowerments* CoolDown: (-12.0sec)
-Max CD (for pve mages)

Stifle: Lv. 73,89,105
This is a pvp spell that delays the cast time/cast animation of skills. Stifle[01] adds 2second delay and each one after adds 1 more second; can becasted while running; works on monsters that use skills, it is also stackable, so your older stifle is rewritten by newer one.
*Empowerments* Buff time: (+3.0sec) CoolDown: (-18.0sec)
-(PvP mages) Max CD, buff time works but only adds 3 seconds.

Steal Spell: Lv. 79
Works just like purge…. except has a 50% chance to steal the 1st buffs casted on the target.
*Note* The buff you steal will only last for the duration of how long it had for original person, like if person had scroll w/ 27mins left, you get it for 27mins, and same rules apply as purge w/ which buffs you cant steal(except you cant take cleric party buffs, it will just remove but not give to you)
*Empowerments* CoolDown: (-36.0sec)
-Same as purge, empower if you want.

*This is complete skill list of all skills in the US version of Fiesta Online available at this time. They are all confirmed.
*Skill lvs in Red are only usable with certain lv100 job change classes. see lv100 Job change section for more info.

Expel: Lv.95 (10sec cd)
takes off all debuff spells cast on the target.
(works just like as dispel, just shorted cd and it takes off all curse debuffs, instead of only one)
It has faster animation then dispel, so works nice for stifle.
Does not take off Ice blast, or def down fighter debuff.
*Empowerments* CoolDown: (-3.0sec)
-i suggest no empowerments.

Mesmerize: Lv. 100 (Warlock only, must have wand equiped) 40 Sec CD
Puts your target to sleep. It lasts 20 seconds. Target comes awake when attacked.
i think sleep is a 100% chance to work. does not work against people w/ DoT(poisons/nova/violence skill)
(buy from nina for 30k fame)
*Empowerments* CoolDown: (-12.0sec)
-i would max cd for pvp mages.

Metamorphosis: Lv. 100 (Warlock only, must have wand equipped) 1min CD
Transforms into a bird, you fly really high to where you really cant be seen. You move a little faster then normal run speed. You cant be attacked. it lasts for 5mins, click on buff icon to cancel bird.
*Note* Can only be used in outdoor areas!
*Empowerments*
-i suggest no empowerments.

Blink: Lv. 100 (Wizard only, must have staff equiped) 30 sec CD
Teleports 9.0m in direction your character are facing. So what ever direction are facing you will teleport exactly 9.0m unless the area is not accessible. fun spell to play with.
(buy from nina for 30k fame)
*Empowerments* CoolDown: (-9.0sec)
-you can max cd for pvp/soloing purposes.

Summon: Lv. 100 (Wizard only, must have staff equiped) 5min CD
Summons a monster. Summons 3 skeletons to fight with you. they move randomally like the flamewalker does attacking anything near by. they hit for decent damage and attack very fast, and have alot of hp/def/eva. They only last 60 sec though. You can kind of make skeleton go where you want by having a mob follow you. They do Dmg not Mdmg. you can chain it for 6 skeletons @ a time(steal spell a chain casting then use it then cc you own for 9)
If you are too close to the monster(s) the skeletons are attacking the monster(s) will come after you.
*Note* Using charms will not make summon stronger. they die if you die, they run out of hp, you leave the area, get get on a mover.
*Note* If you use summon, and the skeletons get the last hit on something, you or your party will NOT get credit for the kill (like for lic or quest).
*Empowerments* CoolDown: (-60.0 sec)
-maxing cd doesnt take off too much. i dont think its really worth it to empower.

Flame Walker: Lv. 100 (both worlock & wizard) 4 Min CD
Summons a Flame Walker. Its a ball of fire, that moves in random directions using an inferno like every 7-8 sec. It lasts for like 2 mins 30sec. you are able to chain cast it for 2 at a time(steal spell a chain casting then use it then cc you own for 3). But they do very low damage, does like the damage of magic missle 1. the infernos only last for 1tick of damage. Causes an unknown status effect. locks on to target near it and stays near it until that target dies.
Sometimes it glitches and doesnt move, or locks on to a tree/mushroom ect lol.
If you are too close to the monster(s) the flamewalker is attacking the monster(s) will come after you.
*Note* Using charms will not make flamewalker stronger. they die if you die, they run out of hp, you leave the area, get get on a mover.
*Note* If you use flamewalker, and the flamewalker get the last hit on something, you or your party will NOT get credit for the kill (like for lic or quest).
*Empowerments* CoolDown: (-1min 12.0sec)
-i suggest not epowering

Ice Field: Lv. 100 (both worlock & wizard) 2min 20sec CD
Freezes your target and things around it.(works like devastate but has 360 degree aoe range) deals damage and makes them trapped in ice unable to do anything like stun. Lasts for 10seconds. It hits ~15-20 targets.
*Empowerments* damage: (+787) CoolDown: (-42.0sec)
-I would suggest max CD for both pvp/pve.

Electric Shock: Lv. 100 (both worlock & wizard) 2min CD
Attacks your target and things around it and disables them from using skills.(works like devastate but has 360 degree aoe range) But it seems to only stop 1skill from being used, then wears off. Lasts for 10 seconds. It hits ~15-20 targets.
*Empowerments* damage: (+1575) CoolDown: (-36.0sec)
-(optional) max CD

Playing as a Mage

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Weapons~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What weapon to choose?
There isnt that much difference in staffs and wands, but the differences are:
Staff?
Staffs are only weapon you can use pre-20.
Staffs usually look cooler than wands.
Staffs have better Aim then wands.
Wizards can only use Staffs.
Wand?
Wands are only lv20+
Wands have more damage then staffs.
Wands have more crit then staffs.
Warlocks can only use Wands.
-Higher level wand/staff have very little difference in damage/aim.
Enhanced Weapons
Getting Weapons that are enhanced are really useful for all aspects of mage, soloing/partying/pvp. +9 doubles damage of +0. Do not enhance things over lv30 w/o enhancement stones from the CS(eyes/miles/nines) becasue your weapon can break! i think +3-6 should be highest you should go unless you have those things.
Weapon licenses
Licenses are really good too. They make you do more damage to the exact enemy on lic. But when you get them to 40%damage+ you get bonus critical for your weapon.
You will see something like this w/ a lic:
Ratman: Refers to the monster’s name that the lic goes to.
Killer: Refers to the stage the lic is on.
Staff: The weapon type the lic is on.
1st xx%(0% in pic): Refers how much % of the stage your lic is on.
Damage: xx%(15% in pic) Refers to what stage the lic is on, and how much of a damage boost you get when fighting that monster.
Creator<name>: Is the person who put the 1st lic on the weapon. (a lic remover fro cash shop will take away the name)
This is a complete lic on lv90 monster:
the stages are:
15% killer
20% Executioner
25% Eliminator
30% Assassin
35% Dominator
40% Destroyer (1% Crit)
50% Slayer (2% crit)
60% Terminator (3%crit)
70% Annihilator (4%crit)
80% Conqueror (5%crit)
the lv of the monster determines what stage the lic can go to. i think things in FoM or MT/SH is where things can get to 40% and you can get critical from. You get % on lic from killing a certain # of that monster, like 4kills=1% of a stage(all monster varies). You can only get credit from monsters that are green or above. You get credit for kills if anyone gets kill in your party.
*Note* The lic Crit% does NOT stack, it just takes what % is the highest. Also when standing near/attacking the monster that you have lic on, will boost damage on your character screen.
(the higher lv the monster, the higher %damage/crit you can get(seems to stop @ 80%) and the more kills/% you need)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Soloing as a mage~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Know you monsters, what skills they use and what effects they have, also know that the monster name color is the level of it compared to you
Grey=weak and will give you little to no exp, Green=monster is under your level, and will drop less then normal, Yellow= close to your level, Orange= a few levels above you, Red=monster is alot higher level.
*Note That monsters that are 30levels above your own will only give you 1exp, and monsters 25-29lvs will give reduced exp*

New targeting system and interface

the monster’s level is now displayed in a circle under the name.

If the monster’s level is 10 or more above it is displayed as a star.
also it shows who the monster is targeting(its by default under the monsters hp/lv ect, i moved it to the side)

*Note* The ^ to the right will make target of monster window disappear.
(works the same way for other players)

Mages dont solo very well, due to very low hp stones. At lv65+ mages are able to 1v1 solo things with magic blast kiting.
Its best to have a fighter(tank) or a cleric w/ you.
ALWAYS have max HP stones when you leave town, and its a really good idea to have a stack or more of HP pots on you @ all times. (Potion making is good skill to have/lv up)
**NEVER let your HP go below 1/2!**
figure out how much HP your stone gives, n try to use it when your down by that much, if stone is in CD, use pots.
*Note Potions can NOT be used while in the middle of casting a spell!*

Also its good for mages to have scrolls, Vit/Def/Eva/Aim are ones you should have,
having a buff is also good when soloing.
lv65+ you should stock t1 speed or above for kiting with magic blast.

~~~~~~~~~~fighting things~~~~~~~~~~
pre49
-When fighting try to start from max distance away n cast an ice spell to slow them down, and unleash you fury upon it. best combo is firebolt > mm > mm > mm > firebolt, n throw lightning when it up.
-Or if you have lots of open space where you wont get aggro from other things you can try kiting, start w/ ice @ max distance, then use lightning while moving away, n keep running while throwing occasional firebolt or MM, n repeat.
49+
-by now you should know what you doing, use ice @ max distance, then just use all your spells inbetween the spamming of magic blast.
@60+
Use fear and CC(chain casting) defensively
Kiting(lv65+)
After getting Magic Blast[03] you are able to cast it while running. Spam this and in the cool time cast lightning bolt/blast or mana burn. start the fight with an ice blast. also make sure to have t1+ speed scroll on.
~~~~~~~~~~Nuking chains~~~~~~~~~~

pre49
Do firebolt > mm > mm > mm > firebolt, and cast things like lightning or ice, and magic burst when they are up instead of mm.

49-80
spam magic blast and cast other spells inbetween each cd period of magic blast, so like
MB > fireball > MB > firebolt > MB > lightning, ect.

lv81+
just spam magic blast, and use fireball when its up.

Kiting: Kiting is done by running and using magic blast(lv65+) and lightning bolt/blast. Its easiest to do this is you use auto run. you can do this buy holding left and right mouse bottons @ same time. Clicking v and putting action on your macro bar. or going to shortcut setting and making a hotkey for it.

This is a video my friend made of solo aoeing.(requires sc spending XD)
Aka pull

The best thing to do soloing is go to abysses, or just solo quests that are worthwhile, maybe even join a kq.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Partying as a mage~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Know you party, what they do, how good they are ect.
*party w/ tank*
dont attack unless the tank has mocked or kicked the thing(s) you are fighting!
if he doesnt, only attack same target as him w/ caution.
*party w/ cleric*
depending on how good the cleric is
just attack normally or same target as cleric
if hp goes below 1/2 use stone
*party w/ archer or another mage*
Just treat it like soloing, and attack same target
Partying is good to speed up questing
or partying in abyss can increase the exp/hr you get
partying in other areas to gain exp is almost pointless(unless plvling or being plvled)
Kiting with another mage
Both spam magic burst, and use lightning bolt/blast in the cd of it. have the person that has aggro run with it. and person who doesnt have aggro, use ice to slow, and stifle on things that use skills(lv73+)
~~~~~~~~~~AoEing as a mage~~~~~~~~~~

well to AoE make sure you have cleric, solo AoEing can lead to a quick death
let the tank or cleric gather mobs and then use AoE attacks until they are dead;
again if you are in a party w/ a fighter, dont AoE until they mock!!

@20-59
Just spam magic burst when ever possible, n maybe spam a few single target spells in between

@60-66
You want to do nova>magic burst>magic burst>nova

@67+
you have 3AoEs
but magic burst is almost useless
what you want to do is cast nova>inferno>nova and everything should be dead, if not then throw in a magic burst.

Lv67+ aoe Kiting
this is a tactic i just came up with not too long ago doing lv90 kq with 3 other people.

What you do is cast nova+inferno. if you happen to get aggro, kite the mobs in a circle around the edge of the aoe animation(so you dont get hit as much and they still take damage). This helps alot if the tank or cleric lose aggro to you. The ice from nova slows them down.
You can boost this effect by using a speed scroll.

*Note* when you are 67+, and use nova+inferno, spamming magic burst is not a good idea, it will take alot of aggro, and you might find yourself dead…

~~~~~~~~~~Power leveling as a mage~~~~~~~~~~
Plvling(Power leveling): is when high lv ppl bring lower lvs to areas higher then the to kill things fast for very fast leveling
Mages are by far the most effective plvlers @ 67+
just have cleric/fighter pull stuff to you and AoE, pull by aggro(if the stuff still does), or just use MM1 n attack everything in sight to pull, then lay down the AoEs
When being Plvled as mage, sit back and try not to die lol
*Note* that the exp is based on how many party members and the lv of those party members, so the higher the lvs are in the party/the more ppl, the less exp you get
ex.
your lv 35, and have lv 80 in the party killing lv40monsters
if you had you+like another lv3x, you would get more exp
Mage Job Changes
Lv20 Job change
Flash lv20 mage job change video
(did it with npc+0 equips, rings you get from apprenticeship, slime earrings, no stat points used, no empowerments used, no buffs of any kind, and no sc items)
Alright so you hit lv20 right?
why cant i use this lv20 stuff? because all things lv20-59 you have to be a Wizmage to use
How do i become WizMage?
Well after hitting lv20, you get a quest from Mage skill Master in Eldy, she will ask you to kill 10boars, do that and return, she will then tell you to go talk to grand master Sean.
He is located @ bottom island thing in FoM(Forest of Mist), he is near the town portal gaurd, so just use that n talk to him,
He asks you to find a shadow key, it is drop fro all monsters in FoM, you should get it in less then 15kills.
STOP! WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
before you return to him, you need a few things:
Max HP/SP stones, maybe a stack of hp pots,
1 Vit/Def/Eva/Mdef scroll
also try getting a hp/sp buff from a cleric before you go(helps ALOT)
also make sure you are up to date on equips,
and you can +3 all of them(optional and doesnt help that much)
use the scrolls
Now return to him and tell him your ready….
You will then be transported to shadow dungeon where you fight your shadow,
just keep attacking him until he starts talking n running away, follow him when you can, in the next hallway there will be 2 kebrings, kill them n proceed to next room, there will be a few skeletons in here, take them out 1 by 1, then go in next room, the hallway contains 3 kebrings,
and keep walking straight(the room will turn black, and a blue light appears, but DONT FOLLOW IT) keep walking forward, you should see marlone archer in the corner to the left, and marlone fighter in corner to the right, kill them 1by1.
(if you dont they will teleport to you @ end fight and you will probably die because you will be attacked by like 4things)
ok after they are dead follow the blue light to the red crystal thing, then the room will light up and you will see your shadow, just fight him like you did b4 until he dies, just this time like every min. or so, a gob statue will spawn and attack you until shadow dies, when you see one, stop attacking your shadow, n kill it, n resume the pwnge of your shadow. when you kill your shadow, you will be transported back to FoM, talk to sean..
Congratulations! you became wizmage
now get lv20wep/armor, buy lifetap from mage skill npc, n talk to nina n buy magic burst for 400fame(or accept/do other quest you get from mage skill npc n get it for free)
Also check your freestats, you will find 5points you have to spend ^^
Lv60 Job change
Well just like before get prepared
get atleast 2 t3 vit/def/eva/aim and make sure u get t2+ buff from a cleric
and a stack of t3 HP pots
Then talk to Sean in FoM, he will teleport you to roumen….
wait a sec, this isnt roumen… where are the spammers? LOL
well this is a fake roumen. now put on your t3 scrolls
talk to the town chief and all the npcs/fake ppl turn into zombies!!!!
get ready to be rushed by alot of zombies, they do decent damage, and cause poison when they hit you, be ready w/ your t3 pots, just keep aoeing, and picking them off w/ single target spells.
you can kite them, and keep running and magic bursting when its up to take less damage.
once u have defeated all npc zombies you will warp back to Sean
(just walk from fountain to where grandpa robin is, take long way not short cut, that will ensure u find all the zombies; there are none in market place, or in field area)
*Note* This part of the job change you can get 2 title types very easy. This is treated as a KQ. So if you win, and then talk to sean, you can ask him to repeat this 1st part. It counts as a sucessful KQ, and you can get like KQ gold medalist.
Also you can get the fail kq by dying alot of times, and failing it.
(wish i had known/thoguht of this when i had mage doing it XD)
after our done, restone, and go to roumen n talk to town chief, then you will be teleported to area that looks like 70abyss(if u ever been there)
this is simple, just click a die then click the middle piller thing to spin,
if it lands on your die you go fight gambling king joker, if not a few mini mobs spawns n u try again.
The way i found it to work is, the higher the # it lands on, the more monsters will spawn. So its best to pick 5/6 right? nope, it seems 1-3 are most common to land on, and 4-6 are more rare. so id suggest you pick 1 or 2, and then keep picking same # until you get it.
the joker is a weak squishy guy, you will kill him very fast…
make sure to get the thing he drops, or you have to do it over
after that talk to the town chief again and he will teleport you to AEW look alike, just keep walking until you find campfire.
you objective here is to keep the npcs alive until tie runs out, just keep aoeing the spawned mobs to take aggro from them
you can kite them, and keep running and magic bursting when its up to take less damage. Just make sure npcs dont have too many mobs on them or they can die an you will fail.
(the npc will regen some health after everything is dead)
each time the spawns get bigger n bigger, be ready w/ t3 pots when it is almost over..
after that talk to the town chief again and…
Congratulations you have become Enchanter!
get your lv60 gear, talk to nina and buy Chain casting for 10k fame(or you can quest it like b4)
and then go to uruga and buy nova and fear!
also check your free stat, you will notice 10points ^^
Lv100 Job change
The 3rd job change is called prestige. You get to chose between 2 class splits.
This is by far the easiest and boring job change yet lol.
Just talk to npcs.
-Talk to fire stone, then wind then tree, earth, water.
-Then talk to town chief in AR.
-Talk to blacksmith in AR.
-Then talk to skill master in AR.
-Talk to item merchant in AR.
-Talk to town chief in AR twice.
-Talk to town chief in Roumen.
-Talk to lord elbama in Elderine.
-Talk to the town chief in Uruga.
-Talk to Dark Elf in Forest of Mist.
-Talk to Kid Woz in Elderine.
-Talk to town chief in AR twice.
-Talk to fire stone, water, earth, then tree stone.
-Talk to the town chief in AR, and choose your class. You will get green server message for everyone to see your achievement ^^.
-Then after that go to npcs in all towns and accept the rewards, that are a range of things like t5 scrolls, pots, ect.
prestige choices:
this change is basically, PvP mage or PvE mage. Wizard is for PvE, and warlock is for PvP. Im a PvE mage so im a wizard ^^.
Wizard(top) and Warlock(bottom)
Warlock
Once you become a Warlock you will obtain incredible power. However, Warlocks are weak in defense. But there’s a solution to that weakness as well..! You can transform into a bird and patrol the area. Warlocks are clever and powerful magicians with special witchcrafts.
When you choose warlock you get:
+40int +400hp +500sp
Can only use wands!
lv100+ class specific skills(these skills are only obtainable with this class choice @ lv100+): Fireball, ice blast, lightning blast, Mesmerize, Metamorphosis
Wizard
Wizards are not as powerful as warlocks in one blow striking magical power.
However, they are highly trained spiritually with great sorcery that they can bring back monsters from the dead and use them against your enemies. Not only that, once you become a wizard you can also teleport to in front of your enemy. Wizard is a great class that overcame the weakness of a magician.
When you choose wizard you get:
+32def +38Mdef +23hp +938sp
Can only use staffs!
lv100+ class specific skills(these skills are only obtainable with this class choice @ lv100+): Magic burst, Nova, Inferno, Blink, Summon
so if you are say a wizard. you cant upgrade fireball anymore after lv100. Have to keep the 9x version forever. and if you choose warlock you are stuck with lv9x aoes forever.
after doing prestige, both classes get 307hp stones and 442 sp stones, YAY!
Mage PvP tips/tricks
I dont really care for pvp that much but am a good strategist,
these are some general guidelines, where as pvp varies for different situations and different ppl w/ different skill empowerments/builds/equips/lv/sc items, so they might not work everytime.
for all pvp 1st things you should do is debuff them while running away(only if they have buffs to steal)
In 1v1 pvp, aoes are almost useless, unless you are casting the on top yourself when fighting cleric or fighter.
*Note* keep in mind purge/steal spell work on chain casting type spells, so you can take cleric,archer, or mages CC ^^
below lv60
(when you get the blast spells, you want to spam magic blast, and inbetween each CD period use other spells like fireball,firebolt, ect)
for fighters:
Fighters dont become very good until 43+ and they get deva, so for fighters start from far away, with ice bolt, then do firebolt > mm > mm > mm > firebolt, style of attacks, then when he gets close start running and cast lightning bolt, and run until ice bolt is up again, and repeat.
for clerics:
Clerics(if they are any good) will just keep spam healing them selves, so you wont be able to kill them 1v1 until 60+, if they are not the good you can spam skills, and notice on when they heal, and right b4 they usually do it cast mana burn(if you have it), hopefully the cleric wont notice or be quick enough to get off a heal, n finish them off.
for archers:
Archers can be mages worst enemies pre60+, they are ranged,have DoT,and deal melee damage.. just have decent end or enhanced gear, and possibly a legendary/heavenly necklace for resistances. They will most likely, do DoT and start kiting you, DONT FOLLOW THEM, run in oppisite direction, they will have to come to you then, when you notice they are comming after you, turn around a throw a ice bolt to slow them, then do a mana burn, and nuke them w/ firebolt > mm > mm > mm > firebolt.
for other mages:
Start w/ ice bolt from max distance, n start running n throw a lighting bolt, then just do firebolt > mm > mm > mm > firebolt, style nuking, and do ice/lightning when they are up, also use manaburn when other mage is @ like 1/2 mp so it will deplete them, and give you a free second of not being attacked.
*for guild wars*
Just attack the same people that your guildies are attacking, and manaburn the clerics and make sure to purge when you can.
lv60/lv73+
(if under 73 just follow this but w/o stifle)
(if under 81, follow the magic blast spam, w/ other skills inbetween nuking stragity)
(if over 81, just spam magic blast and use fireball when its up)
(When the person you are attacking is @ really low hp, try using mm or firebolt to finish them off because they do not have cast times)
For Fighters:
1) start with ice blast. Then chain cast fear. Start nuking them with high damage spells. Then when fear is close to wearing off, cast again. Keep attacking. Then when that wears quickly cast stifle. Then cast a nova+inferno on top of yourself. and start nuking some more. you can use a mana burn in middle if u want to buy a second.
2) Do #1 but after the 2nd fear start kiting them with magic blast. and when they get close use the stifle, then use ice blast, and start kiting them until they die. If they get close enough to land a deva, it might be all over for you XD
For Clerics:
Try to learn the cleric, @ what % hp do they usually heal @, and how much Mdef/hp they have.
Killing a cleric who is attacking you:
If you are 1v1ing a cleric who is also trying to kill you its a little bit easier to kill. you can,
1)Start with ice blast, then chain cast fear, nuke them, fear, nuke some more, if they still not dead they will come back near you to attack. At this time cast nova+inferno on top of yourself, then cast a stifle. nuke away. You can try a mana burn if you notice they have lower sp. If they are not dead, give up lol.
2)Start with ice blast, then cast a nova+inferno on top of yourself. Chain cast stifle, and keep nuking them, while keeping nova/inferno up when you can. When 1st stifle is about to wear cast 2nd, and keep up the damage. When you notice the cleric is @ about 1/3 hp or less, cast fear and finish them off! of course if that doesnt kill them, give up lol.
Killing a cleric that is not trying to attack(ie healing others):
This could be a little bit harder then if they wanted to try and kill you. You would pretty much use same strategies as above minus the nova/inferno. There is the chain fear -> stifle, or chain stifle -> fear. maybe a manaburn if they dont have much sp and you can deplete them. Just nuke away, but after the stifles/fears are gone and they are still alive, i would give up lol.
For Archers:
Archers are ranged,have DoT, and do melee damage, a mages worst nightmare right?
nope, stifle/fear is deadly to archers. Start off with ice blast, then do a fear and start nuking them. After fear wears chain cast stifle. Continue nuking and recast stifle when it is about to wear. Just keep nuking them until they die. Use manaburn if you see them @ 1/2 or below sp.
*Note* If they start to run away and "kite" you, DONT follow them, just run other way for a little bit. When they come back to kill you run towards them and ice blast. Attack when you can. if you find him to be running way to much just leave, not worth time playing tag lol.
You can now kite with the archers by casting magic blast. use ice and then start spamming kiting spells.
but remember, most archer skills are 15.0m, and mages are 12.0m. and also they can fully DoT you while running then stop and power shot you to death.
for other mages:
(remember dispel removes stifle)
(if you are going to use stifle, use ice bolt/blast, so the other mage will dispel the ice instead of stifle ^.^)
1)You start with ice blast, then chain fear, nuke them and re fear after it wears. keep nuking. after the 2nd fear you can cast stifle. and keep nuking. you can try manaburn but it usually only takes off like 1/3 a mages sp, not really worth it lol. also try using a nova when they are nuking, it will either do slow+damage over time added with your nukes, or you will do one slow+damage and they stop casting to move. If this doesnt work try 2nd strategy.
2)Start with ice blast, then chain cast stifle(if they are smart they will dispel one). start nuking them until they take it off then recast it. keep nuking them until the stifle wears off. Use ice blast if they try to run. when stifle is gone use fear, and keep nuking them, after that if they are still not dead, you will probably not win.
3)Play it on the defensive, try to read them and defend against it, let them use most of thier pvp moves(stifle/fear) then start your barrage. always dispel a stifle when you get it. if they start to cast aoe try to run away from where you think they are casting it. if they chain stifle, after dispelling 1st one, and got hit with a 2nd use a fear on them or try kiting them around a bit. try to be really quick with purge, try to purge them when they use chain casting.(dont try to be coc.ky(dang os forums filters -.-) and steal spell it, steal spell takes 2-3sec to get and isnt 100% sure). If you are going to use chain casting its best if you use it while they are unable to cast purge(they in middle of a skill cast or are feared/stifled or they already used it). Chain casting stifle is better then fear for pvping mages.
when i am pvping other mages i do #3 and play on defensive.
*Guild war*
For guild war when there a multiple ppl v multiple ppl, mages are very useful,
fighters can be used to distract other fighters, while you can fear/stifle the clerics/mages and help kill fighters/archers, and debuff ppl. when there are ppl standing still, or multiple ppl one spot lay down some aoes, if fighters come after you kite them and cast magic blast until you get help from other guildies or you kill hi, or he gives up.
just have to use instinct and some strategies from above to take down ppl and avoid dying if possible.
Misc. Information
Abyss
To get to abysses you must enter Forest perimeter by talking to Battle Field Guard @ G-8 in Elderine(behind Nina). There you will see guards, to enter that abyss talk and click enter. (the lv range of that abyss is above guards head)
Elderine is for lv20-50abysses and uruga is lv 60-80 abysses.
Abyss is an area of the game where you get very good exp and alot of drops for each kill and the monsters there have lower stats compared to monsters @ the same lv.
Its the best most perfect place right? nope, with all that good there has to be drawback, which is that abyss is a pvp zone, meaning you can be attacked by anyone while there(dying to another player you lose 0.1% exp).
So use area @ own risk or go with a party to insure safety. When soloing its best to go to rooms where others dont go to as much to avoid dying. and when gating in, if there are others there @ gate, dont stop just keep moving, usually they will give up after a min. Its best to check often to see when there are less people @ the gate. Also try going during like 12am-1pm PST times(when most kids are @ school).
Town portal guard
The town portal guard is located @ Roumen(F2) Elderine(C7) Forest of Mist(G5) and Sand Hill(C7). By talking to one, you can warp to any of those 4places instantly for free! (must be lv10+ to use warp)
PvP KQ
You can only use stones, no potions.
The PvP kqs are for lvs 35-49; 55-69; 75-89
As a mage you want to go for lower lv fighters, and maybe weaker mages/archers. you wont be able to kill clerics normally so just dont even try.
The point of this KQ is to get the most points(kills give + points, and deaths give -) You want to run around killing weaker people. the kq is dominated by fighters, since they took out hammer/ice now i think. Might be hard to win as mage unless charmed and extended.
if you have 0 kills i think you can die 16 times before you get no exp from kq. so this means its possible to in a way, leech this kq. You can completely leech kq, by joining and walking away; or just run from everyone, but when you die, stay dead for the 2mins. By the end of kq you should have no more then 10deaths by doing this. Which means you will receive exp.
Instance Dungeon
Currently the only instance is dragon’s tomb, which is lv85+. This place is hell for mages, all monsters hit for like 2k+, some have aoes, mana burn,heal,fear. Its best to take you time with this. Pt i would suggest is 2fighters/1-2cleric. You can always use stifle on mobs to delay their skills, and fear some if too many things aggro. All bosses can be feared. The last boss is hard to fear, but can be done. Its also best to keep your distance from the monsters. Instance is good for lv85 blues, and t4 recipes. You can either fight all bosses or go straight for last boss. The quests in here give alot of exp, but can take a long time to complete.
Its much easier if you use charms/extenders/+9s. But can be passed using just t4 scrolls.
